Symbid: Innovative iPad game funds €40.000 through equity crowdfunding

20 AUGUST 2013, ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS
Summary
20 August 2013, Rotterdam, the Netherlands – Tempeest, a Dutch mobile concept development company, has funded €40.000 for its latest iPad game “Lost in Time”. Investors had the opportunity to buy a share in the company via crowdfunding platform Symbid. The investors' shares will increase in value as the iPad game increases in value.

The iPad market is growing at a rapid rate. Mobile devices continue to be embedded in the daily lives of consumers. Both the software and the devices are being sold on a continuously larger scale. The market is very competitive and investors are careful about what concept deserves their investment. Despite these challenges Tempeest managed to gather the required €40.000 necessary to fund their iPad game Lost in Time, via crowd-investment platform Symbid.

Lost in Time is a “pervasive” game: the iPad which runs the game is taken into the city where the game is played. The player follows the instructions given by the game character, such as intercepting the enemy who can be followed via the interactive city-map shown in the game. The story focuses on the time machine of the professor (Freek de Jonge), who will guide the player through the game. The time machine is being hijacked by a young boy after which the player has to prevent a historical disaster from happening. The excitement, accessibility and locational approach of the game make it well suited for schools, families, tourists and excursions.

Apart from the €40.000, the crowdfunding campaign also resulted in the first sales and a dedicated group of ambassadors that support the development of Lost in Time. The networking function and marketing role for which crowdfunding campaigns are known, attracted larger than average investments.

Karin Sikkema, CEO of Tempeest, is pleased with the result: “We have noticed that finding investors needs to be done online as well as offline. Though the campaign appeared to slow down from time to time, the Tempeest team has worked very hard to further develop the game. That's why we very grateful for the patience the investors have yielded.”

Korstiaan Zandvliet, CEO of Symbid, is also very pleased: “Innovative concepts appear to be very attractive to our investors. This is the first iPad game that has attracted funds via Symbid and we're happy to see our investors have made serious financial contributions and value entertainment concepts. Because Tempeest is an established company and is currently expanding their game internationally, the growth expectations are running high.”
